Music Saved my Life

When Sergio Witis, Director of Soundpath Recovery, extended an invitation to come into Soundpaths studio and record a single release I was excited and simultaneously honored, as I have listened to his previous 10 year career band, Everymen prior to our recently acquainted friendship. Three years ago Sergio designed a program that secures a safe environment for clients to express themselves within Transformations Treatment Center, an inpatient recovery center in Delray Beach, Florida. This program has brought group therapy sessions, meditation, drum circles, recording studio time, creative writing, and ukulele workshops into fruition within the center that offers space for those who struggle with mental health, addiction, trauma, and PTSD.

As someone that has struggled with mental health concerns and addiction since I was a young teenager, this program resonated with me and touched my heart with a sort of light so beautiful, I couldn't comprehend in the moment. Some years back, I got sober for the first time ever and this life change was encouraged by music. In reflection, I wish I could have had an opportunity to have a program like Soundpath Recovery guiding me out of the darkness and into the light.

It was such an honor to see this light harnessed in the hands of my friend as he moved throughout the building where faces greeted him with smiles and clients looked at him with looks of gratitude. The saying amongst many in the music community is "Music saved my life." Music did save my life and I believe music will save many more through programs like Soundpath Recovery.

I chose this song to work on with him because it embodies mental illness with a physical character that I build a toxic relationship with that consumes the physical, emotional and spiritual body. Below are all the links to the single release Sergio and I worked on together in Soundpaths studio titled; Have Mercy.

Lyrics:

I've touched my fate, she has a pretty face.

I can taste her dark soul, it's stained on my lips.

From this mornings Satans kiss.

And I can smell his virgins breakfast!

All I ask, is won't you please have mercy on me?!

Cause these eyes, oh they've seen, and they've grown tired.

I can't run, I can't hide and I won't subside.

So all I ask, is won't you please, have mercy on me?!

I remember last when the beasts tongue caressed my neck.

Just before he slit it open in the darkness.

He said, "I wanna taste your voice, and keep it for only me.

Let ONLY HELL HEAR YOU SING!"

All I ask, is won't you please have mercy on me?!

Cause these eyes, oh they've seen, and they've grown tired.

I can't run, I can't hide and I won't subside.

So all I ask, is won't you please, have mercy on me?!

So he buried me in the dirt of planet earth.

So the human race could have its way with me.

So all I ask, is won't you please, won't you please.

Have

Mercy

On

Me
